It wasn't the big show, of couse, but it was full length and perfectly adequate. Ana whined on the way over ("you know, we could've stayed home and watched it on Netflix!!!") but she got as engrossed as her sister when the performance started. Eva in particular pored over her program for every new dance so she would know exactly what it was.

It probably is for the best that there was a narration, though I myself found it a little intrusive. Seriously, if your audience can't guess that the mice with red coats and a king and a Union Jack and the tin soldiers with an American flag are re-enacting the American Revolution in Clara's living room, telling them this is the case isn't going to help!

The people behind us started rustling chip bags right after intermission. For crying out loud, that ballet barely tops two hours! If you really do need to eat every hour, and can't abide leaving, can't you at least eat something *quiet*?

As I told the nieces when we left, that's one of the reasons I insisted on going to a live performance rather than just "watching on netflix". When they're grown, I want them to have the common sense to know that you cannot eat potato chips quietly and the good manners not to even try. (Those folks were two adults, no kids with them. Those are people who really, really ought to have known better.)

I got turned around leaving (Ana had to lead me back to the train station. Honestly, I don't know what I would do without her some days! Get lost a lot more often, probably.) and led us by a fishpond. No sooner had I stopped to point out that parts of it were frozen and ask if they could figure out why it wasn't entirely frozen then Eva turned and stepped right in, up to her knee! She refused to tell me why, either. It's "none of my business". I disagree, but I don't know any way to pry that secret out of her. I'm sure it's very silly, and she's just embarrassed.

Rather than transferring we decided to take the 2 straight to Fulton and walk. Wall Street is closer, but I always get lost leaving from that station. Ana, of course, whined. It worked out for the best, though. I got turned around AGAIN leaving the train, decided to head right for the huge Christmas tree, and discovered where we were at the same time that I discovered an outdoor skating rink! $16 with skate rental. Money well spent, we spent two and a half hours there and even got to watch the zamboni. When we did skating as kids I always loved that, and the nieces did as well. I, of course, played this off like that was my plan the whole time and I was never lost, and the girls are too nice to reveal that they know better.

Of course, then we missed dinner and picked up pizza, so all in all these cheap tickets were pretty pricy. But that's the way it always is.

Did you go to the Christmas Show at the St George again this year? I know I saw you there outside a couple years ago with the girls. :)

They changed it up a bit this year, some new numbers and such.

Meggie, as usual, was a ragdoll. But as not-usual, she was also in the new opening, a ballet number of dancers around a christmas tree. She was the centerpiece of the christmas tee. :)
