Date: 2013-09-25 02:00 am (UTC)Most textbooks are still required to pass standards set by an ironclad fundamentalist Christian fringe group in Texas (http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/features/2010/1001.blake.html). The few excerpts he quotes from his daughter's textbooks demonstrate that they are poorly written and badly edited. So children are not only overburdened with work which they are to memorize, and not to understand, but are hampered by the inferior tools they've been given to do this work.
