Somebody will say "it's not as popular with kids anymore since it got taken over by grown-ups".

It's hard to see how they figure that, frankly. Facebook is heading up for its 10th anniversary. As we all know, the original core audience was college students.

So, let's see... 18 - 22 then, plus nine years, makes the original users 27 - 31 now. Of course, the original users also included people older than 22 at the time, and they're all correspondingly older now.

Teens today probably do think there are too many adults on Facebook... but it's not because new users are so much older than they used to be.

I hesitate to suggest this in the comments of any article, though. It might make people think on how old they're getting.

There are two groups of people who cause me to keep my facebook use limited — the high-schoolers I teach, and the older relatives (grandma, great-aunt, etc) who are just fluent enough to make things awkward.

13-year-olds were first allowed to register in 2006. Which means that even they will be 20 by now. In fact, anyone who has been on Facebook for 5 years or more must be an adult.
