You know, I didn't realize this when we started the book (hadn't read it since high school), but the author really didn't predict cell phones. The characters are constantly looking for pay phones, using pay phones, asking futilely if they can use the phone. And it was published in 1994!

So what are we reading next? The girls want another fantasy or sci-fi book, so my shortlist is:

The Moorchild

Face Like Glass (we never finished it first time around, not sure why)

Quest for a Maid (for my money, one of the best older middle grade fantasy books written during my childhood, but lots of Scottish accents)

Ambassador

Zahrah, the Windseeker

I realize they switched their form so now Gender is listed as (Optional) and you have three choices - male, female, and a text box that you can fill in or leave blank. Good job, Met!
