Turns out it was the cherry festival, which means admission was twice as much as it normally is. Still, $20 for an outing (kids are free, and twice free is still free) is still a good deal. Ana fit right in in her vampire dress and blue wig, because apparently half of the city decided that last weekend was the time to engage in some serious cosplay. I got to explain this to a somewhat baffled grandmother, while clarifying that Ana wasn't really participating, she just always likes to have blue hair and a vampire dress on when she goes out.
We had a lot of fun, stopped by the greenhouses, admired the orange tree (all the oranges were out of reach, but somebody had managed to pick one and drop it right in the middle of the desert area, making that a total waste of time), went to the discovery garden, and all, right up until I realized I'd lost the grocery money. I stopped in at lost and found, but I didn't really expect them to do much good, and by the time I realized it was gone it must have been long gone.
Happily, we have sufficient emergency money, and food in the house. I'll budget a bit tightly for the next two weeks or so and then that will be that. I'm choosing to view this as "somebody got a nice windfall" instead of "I lost more money than I ever want to lose".
Evangeline lost her jacket the same day, and then Jenn lost something, I don't remember what, which makes Ana the only person to keep track of everything she had! Yay for her.
