So I ordered the goods from Wallypop.net. Why? Well, if I trust the woman to make products that hold children, I certainly hope her sewing is good enough to hold a little blood. I just don't bleed that much. And they're inexpensive. (Plus, I like this woman. She made my podegi over Christmas, after I agreed that no, she shouldn't work during the holiday, I certainly didn't expect it, simply because she didn't like it waiting so long. That's nice.)

Wanna see what I got?

Okay! I won't go into details, but I will link to fabric choices.

There's the hot peppers (flannel).
The starry monkeys (flannel)
Supergirl! (flannel, and really tiny image)
Bats (which seemed appropriate)

For my little bag, I got Dinosaur Robots, which I'm still not entirely sure I won't regret, but I've wanted to have her make something of that fabric for me for a while - my podegi was almost made of that fabric, for example.

And I made a special request for all PUL layers to be made of the flaming cherries of awesomeness, which I can only hope happens.

If you can guess three other "tough call" options that I decided not to go with right now, you'll get some sort of fictitious prize. They're all flannel or plain cotton.

I need to finally finish that quilt, but... there's a psychological barrier, so I may just start a new one.

And I want to make some pads for myself, it'll just take longer than these'll take to arrive.

And I want to make some clothes, mostly for the niecelings.

So - anybody have good (free!) patterns? Or inexpensive ones? Or suggestions for improvising my own, which is how my mother crochets, and she's largely self-taught, so that should work for sewing, maybe? What about good sources of inexpensive fabrics? Or nifty ones?

And worst of all, yesterday she was *warm*, so I left the museum early and put her to nap a bit late, and today we're having an in day.

Angelique seems fine, but she keeps grinning and telling me she's sick.

So, for our morning snack, I made us each a slice of cinnamon toast (special treat!). And as we're sitting around the table eating our snack, I told the girls that "cinnamon toast always makes me feel better when I'm sick".

Angelique politely informed me that no, medicine did that... and smiled and said she needed medicine.

*sighs*

Now, a few weeks ago, somebody elsewhere, their kid wouldn't go to bed, and they (the parent) didn't want to let the kid sleep in their (parent's) bed. I'm all for parents not co-sleeping if they don't want to - no point doing something that makes you unhappy, right? The point of co-sleeping, as I understand it, is for everybody to sleep better, and if you're not, you shouldn't do it.

Turns out, we find later, that he really wanted some "medicine", so she gave him some candy, and he went to bed.

*taptaptap*

As I said there, I'd rather do almost anything rather than encourage a child to think that candy = medicine, or that medicine is some sort of treat. Kids can get into lots of stuff you thought was put away carefully. Look at what Angelique said above - she already has this idea that medicine is something she can have on special occasions, and we've all worked really hard to disabuse her of that notion. (What she needs is some really nasty-tasting medicine that doesn't have candy syrup in it to make it taste good for kids. But try getting that at the pharmacy.)

And there's so much to say, I don't think I will make one big post. Maybe several smaller posts, spread out, as I think of them.

Here's one, though, prompted by a comment I left in somebody else's journal (hi!).

Angelique, as you know, has a thing for gum. Well, we don't *give* her gum, so she really likes ABC gum. (Say it with me - EW!) And for ages, months and months, I'd see her with gum, I'd give her a time-out, and tell her that the next time was a quick trip home. And then often we'd have to go home, because she'd do it again. We talked, and talked, and talked about how disgusting it was and how dangerous. I even brought Deniz in to tell her it's gross. Read more... )

I'm sitting here, Evangeline is next to me eating her apple, Angelique is still napping... must go wake her soon, though she now has the warmness of doom (aka a mild fever) so I don't really *want* to, but she can't nap this late... And Evangeline is saying my name. Not "Kah-ee", but actually "CONNNNNNNNEEE!" with a NNN. She said it several times once she realized she could, then went back to eating.

The house is a wreck, so I must wake Ana and then clean. Gah.
