Just because it's a good idea, and I've been recently reminded of it, pick up a goodly amount of nonperishable foods, including water. And soap. Can't go wrong with extra soap. Or maybe soapless cleaners...

Come to think of it, we could probably use, like, band-aids or something. If a disaster should strike, it'd be really embarrassing to have to go next-door and say "Can we get some band-aids? I just got a papercut, and it really hurts." Though they *do* say that laughter is healing....

So, like I was saying. Some dried beans, some canned beans, a lefty can opener (safe from 87% of all thieves!), some ramen noodle soup, lo though I loathe the stuff, because it's cheap, some pasta, some ice cream so that when the power goes out I have an excuse to eat it, what else?

Jenn's got a box of baby clothes she wants to Freecycle, and I thought I'd offer it up here first, since I've asked enough for kid's clothes.

As I'm already going to have to go to the post office next week to pick up a package, I'm 90% certain I'll have my stuff together enough to mail this box out. It's already packed, anyway, just needs stamps and a label.

It's mostly girl (beggers can't be choosers, I'm told) or unisex things, almost all 0-3 months (with some 3-6 months), and almost all cooler weather stuff, some warm for winter, some for fall. So I'd suggest it to those who are pregnant now (or whose friends and family members are pregnant now) and expect a child once the weather turns colder.

Naturally, I'd prefer to give this to people who need it, rather than people who are rolling in money or who have thousands of family members waiting to purchase new clothes and rid themselves of their own hand-me-downs. And if I don't have to mail it (you're in the city, or near enough, or will be visiting before winter), that's a plus.

If nobody replies, I'll freecycle it myself and save myself the cost of stamps. Possibly I'll donate it to charity proper, because I find it unlikely that anybody knows the sex of their baby at three months, and there is some pink in the box. When do they test for that, anyway?

I'll have more once Jenn scans in the photos that were already taken, and once I develop the 5 cameras waiting around the house. These were taken by a park volunteer at Preschool Play in Wagner Park. The program isn't that great for a three year old, but it's outdoors and it's easy to get to, and it's good for a younger child (like the baby), and she likes it. So we go there Mondays and Wednesdays :)

Did you know you still maintain [livejournal.com profile] brooklyn_usa?

I'm about to contact another maintainer to ask about advertising the newly minted [livejournal.com profile] nyckids there, in a semi-discreet fashion. Unless you figure nobody else'll mind.

Edit: You're also the sole maintainer of [livejournal.com profile] frugal_ny. Hey, can I advertise in there? I'm hoping to mostly get people posting about free or cheap kid's things in the new comm, so it's kinda appropriate....

(And yes, for the rest of you, this constitutes the obligatory ad on my journal.)

Edit: It's truly amazing how many people I know who maintain comms. Stej, what about me spamming [livejournal.com profile] new_to_nyc, whose members could surely use information about child-related things in the city?
