This family lived alone on the taiga for decades, 150 miles from the nearest settlement which, being in Siberia was probably pretty marginal to begin with.

Wow, that is amazing. Apparently the last surviving daughter still lives there - there's Youtubes of her and her house, which has been rebuilt so it's no longer a pitiful kennel, and she has whole clothes and iron cook-pots and chickens; the veritable Lap of Luxury compared to her youth. So sad that none of her siblings lived.
