She just started feeling better yesterday and today. So, after heading into Manhattan for the much delayed tetanus shot (and that was anti-climatic!), I bought her a book and a toy. (The book, The Dragon Machine, is so worth the $7 it cost.)

Anyway, I was discussing something having to do with toys with Jenn later, and Ana was listening, so I Pig-Latined it: "Oy-tays".

Oy-tays? Why did I do that? Why not "oys-tay"?

Hm.

So, what, exactly, are the rules of Pig Latin where you are? Do consonant clusters get split up (plit-say instead of it-splay)? How do you deal with vowels? Is it based on spelling (unique-ay) or sound (oonique-yay)? What about other, similar codes? Tell me! Please?

1. Fake lj-cut

A fake lj-cut is a link to another entry or site that looks like an lj-cut. It is bolded. It is surrounded by parentheses. The parentheses aren't part of the link proper. If it doesn't at least have the parentheses around it, it's just a damn link, so stop being pretentious about it!

2. Maintainer/moderator

At the risk of abusing the FAQ, go read the FAQ. Got it? Good. Stop confusing them. Once I figured out this nifty piece of information, it's been really annoying me to see people get them wrong.

3. Effect/affect.

Effect is a verb. Effect is a noun. Affect is a verb. Affect is a noun. If you can't tell the difference between the four different uses of these similar words, please, choose a different word.

I'm tired. I'm going to bed. I just needed to get a tiny vent out so people don't think I've turned nice or something in my old age :)

Seriously, though, I feel less irritated than I ever do. You know me, I am always upset over *something*, but these past few days... It's really creepy. But somehow, not creepy enough to actually piss me off. Which is even creepier.

For those who are interested in the subject, of course. My commentary on such articles does tend towards the repetetive. Perhaps I'll start analysing their structure... They do always seem to follow a predictable pattern....

She's just coming off a bad cold, so I understand, but that's not the point. You don't get to go around biting, hitting, and yelling at people because you're sick. Nor can you attempt to push them off of playground equipment, especially when they're bigger than you and *will* carry you home if they have to.

So I didn't stay for dinner this time. I realized that Jenn is home, Jenn can look after her kid. So I tucked the toddler into bed, said goodbye, and left. With any luck, she'll be friendlier tomorrow. I sure hope so.

You'll all be pleased to note that not one of us has ever taken a picture of Ana throwing a tantrum. Unlike some people, I can't see why any of us would consider that something to commemorate. This isn't a child being cute, it's a child being rude. And taking pictures of them lying on the floor kicking and screaming (I'd say like a toddler, but given that they *are* toddlers that seems a bit cruel) isn't really sending the right message, is it? I mean, I don't know about you, but when Ana starts flipping out, my first reaction isn't "grab the camera", it's "grab the kid, stick her on her chair, tell her that you'll talk when she's feeling better and/or fit for civilized company". Maybe it's just me...

(We also don't have any pictures of Ana dumping food all over her. We must be the only people in the US to grab towels instead of cameras when she makes a mess. We're weird that way.)
