I'm going to copy and paste this.

Autism? Cancer? What's the difference? )

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is why I don't point out how offensive people are anymore. Actually, I never did, but that's because I'm a born cynic.

Anyway, [livejournal.com profile] l33tminion, want to try again? Maybe this time you can make it clearer (how, I'm not sure) that you thought the comparison was insulting to autistics, not to people with cancer (though I'm confident that it's not a fair comparision to them either).

In which she describes Rain Man as a movie about a man with Asperger's. No, Rain Man was about somebody diagnosed as HFA. Whether or not this distinction is valid is an exercise left up to the reader, but please, let's stop saying "hey, they can talk, they must be aspie".

And this article, where the number of autistics with average or above average intelligence (whatever that means) is a paltry 10 - 15%. That can't be right....

I don't think I'm anti-Semitic. I could be wrong, though. Let's lay out the reasons why I don't think this:

Edit: I'm not sure I was called anti-Semitic by Jewish people, (which is what makes it even more annoying). I'm also somewhat confident that I've never been accused of anti-Semitism by Jewish people for my belief that Israel isn't a shining palace of virtue in the middle east. I'm sorry, but I think *all* groups being violent about Israel are wrong, both on an ethical level (don't kill people) and on a policy-level. It's not getting them what they want. And the situation appears to be more like a multi-faceted gem than a simple yes/no Jews/Palestinians thing anyway.

Just sayin'.

Edit again: Yes, I realize I left out gay people, Jehovah's Witnesses, Communists, and possibly Catholics. I also didn't mention the number of blond children snatched by their parents to be "Germanized". If anybody can provide links on these, or other atrocities, I'd be much obliged.

I should make it all black and dark grey, and rename it something "meaningfully dark".

In the real world (that is, the world outside of wars and prejudice and discrimination, which is more accurately termed "the sheltered world"), it's bright and sunny, and I'm babysitting tomorrow, and there's birds and kittens around and all.

Oh, and I'm trying out the new digital camera tomorrow. See if I can take some pictures of Ana.

Oooooooh!

We've had a head of garlic around so long, it was sprouting. I hate eating onions and garlic when they start doing that, it's like eating cute veggie-babies, so I took apart the head of garlic and stuck the sprouted cloves in a bowl with some water.

Not a day later, and you can see rootlings. So I tried it with some nearlysprouted cloves, and a few hours later - baby rootlings! SOOOOOOO COOOOOOOL! I could, like, watch the garlic grow!

How long until I can plant them, do you think? Garlic likes roses, right? So planting it near the rosebush from hell would be a good choice, right?
