Here.

The whole thing reminded me of someone I once knew, S. S went to Stuy with me, though we never really talked. We knew each other (we'd been in the same fifth grade class). She hung out with the people on the fourth floor.

Anyway, one day I'm on the boat, heading to school, and S is there with her mom. And she corners me, and asks me to swing by the people on the fourth floor, and tell them "don't say anything, they can't prove anything". I was mildly curious, so I agreed to do this, but when I went by there, everyone was gone. There were always 5-10 people in that same spot, so this was... strange.

Eventually, I found out that S had been expelled for hacking into the computers and changing grades. Not, mind you, changing grades from a 55 to a 65, or from a 90 to a 95, but changing grades from, say, failing to 100. If she'd just passed herself and her friends, nobody would have known, but....

Well, anyway, her mom sued the school. And they let her back in. She'd been kicked out for several months, but they let her back in.

*shrugs* It didn't really matter. She eventually dropped out and took her GED, and joined some branch of the Armed Forces. Her dad, I guess, gave up on promising to pay her tuition to Columbia (which, mind you, she could never have been accepted into).

Why?

No, seriously. I accept that it looks cool, but... why? Isn't it more work to cut out and use? And a bit wasteful of paper?

And how do they decide what things become octagons? Cards, yes. Whiteboards, no. Disks, yes. Books, probably not (I really can't recall). Folded up flags on coffins? Definitely not. Photos? Sometimes.

Where is the logic?

I need to clear my friends list. So I'm asking for a two-part favor. One, post so I know you're active (this isn't a deciding factor for anybody, just a useful thing for me), and two, if I friended you on an old account you never use anymore, post and tell me which account that was. Oh, and if possible, defriend me from that account.

Edit: Guys, no need to talk to me about whether or not you'll take it personally if you're cut. That makes me feel bad. Right now, I'm *only* cutting people whom I think or know are not active in any way. Little bit of triage. If I decide to go further than that, I'll let you know in a new post.

Edit again: Please don't say "this is the only account I use anymore" or "this is the only account I ever use" or anything similar. If there's a chance I've friended the other account, mention it by name. If there's no chance of my having ever known about the other account, great, I'm clear.

Laptop stickers, to make my laptop more interesting. Or to make my bag more interesting. Or just to give me something to read when I forget my book(s). Suggestions?

Question.

Words that sound alike at the end (end, send, bend; can, ban, ran; book, nook, crook) are said to rhyme. Words that sound alike at the beginning (see, saw, summer; less, land, loop; hope, hop, horoscope) are said to alliterate. What about words that only sound different in the middle? Groups like book, bake, bark. Or cap, keep, cop. Or gout, got, gut. Don't they get a cool word too?
