One simple rule is that with induction, you’re playing the numbers game, however technically. For example, “I’ve seen the sun rise every morning of my lifetime, ergo it will likely rise tomorrow morning.” With deduction, you’re drawing a definite conclusion from stated premises. For example, “My car’s differential fell out. My car is rear-wheel drive. Rear-wheel drive vehicles need differentials to move. Therefore, my car can’t move.” This has been Colin’s Unsolicited Logic LessonTM, a public service for which I only receive minor monetary compensation. Hey, I gotta eat.

Really, we're supposed to be above all this...

He's so stupid! He has all of his facts wrong, plus he's an idiot because he can't spell anything.

1. IF he's an idiot, the reason is not "because he can't spell". Rather, he can't spell because he's an idiot.
2. There are a number of reasons for a person not to be able to spell. This does not necessarily imply stupidity.
3. WTF does that have to do with the price of tea in China? Maybe he's an idiot. But can we use something that's actually relevant to prove it?

The guy wouldn't do his job, and then got upset when he got fired.

Look, it's simple. If you're in a wheelchair, and you can't get a teaching job because of this, you have a right to be pissed. But if you can't get a job as an acrobat, well, that's probably because you really can't do it.

Similarly, if this guy was getting fired from a teaching job over his religion, that's wrong. But getting fired when because of his religion he can't do his job properly? No. He needs to find another job that wont' cause him spiritual pain. He's not being persecuted, despite what he thinks. He's just expected to do his job, and if he can't, he needs to find a job he can do.

WTF?

You're so doubtful of your candidate's chances that you're outright cheating?

And of course, Bush and co. will deny all knowledge. Well, they might not know about this, honestly. It's just so fucking wrong.
