Or, it was an okay day punctuated by bits of tantrums, Evangeline style. And this is the kid who used to always be so easygoing! I never in my life expected to see a kid throw a fit for getting exactly what she asked for on top of her pizza before.

Ahhh, then it's just normal developmental megalomania, AKA getting too big for one's britches. Six is the common age for that: "Now I am Six, I'm as clever as clever, So the whole world shall serve me forever and ever!"

Very annoying it is, too. Tantrums from children old enough to talk are something I personally won't tolerate: I have found that a glass of cold water in the face often makes that point very effectively. There is also much to be said for explaining (in a non-tantrum moment) that the child is expected to use her words in a civil tone; that a tantrum will never get her anything she wants, and that throwing a fit like that makes other people think she's retarded or mentally ill. Having a tantrum in a public place is grounds for being picked up in the humiliating can't-kick-me 'football' carry and dragged off to the restroom or other private space till it's over, then bundled home in disgrace for the proper scolding.

A child who refuses to eat what's been special-ordered for her doesn't get any more special orders for quite a while, and she gets her nose rubbed in her bad behavior every time she asks: "No, You threw a fit last time; forget it." "Why should I do anything special for you when you've been so rude to me?" It's crucial to make the point that she is not, in fact, Princess of Everything, and that how she treats others has a direct relation to how she is treated.

*hugs* Good luck; hang in there!
