Tomorrow is election day
Nov. 7th, 2011 10:15 amAnd I'm going to vote, not because I particularly want to or even care this year, but because I feel that it's important to have the nieces see this bit of civic responsibility.
It looks like I only have one choice to make this year, for district attorney. But I'm going to vote for supreme court justice* as well anyway, even though there's no point as the guy's running unopposed. Like that'll stop me!
*In NYS, the supreme court is the regular appeals court. The supreme court is the Court of Appeals. Don't question it.

Date: 2011-11-07 05:30 pm (UTC)Our supreme court isn't an appeals court at all: it's at the same first level as civil court, criminal court, and family court. Then the "Appellate Division" and the Court of Appeals.
Still, we don't have the only weird names: over in Massachusetts, the highest state court is the "Supreme Judicial Court" because the legislature is also called a "court."
