Tomorrow is election day

And I'm going to vote, not because I particularly want to or even care this year, but because I feel that it's important to have the nieces see this bit of civic responsibility.

It looks like I only have one choice to make this year, for district attorney. But I'm going to vote for supreme court justice* as well anyway, even though there's no point as the guy's running unopposed. Like that'll stop me!

*In NYS, the supreme court is the regular appeals court. The supreme court is the Court of Appeals. Don't question it.

I don't even have that: I'm trying to decide whether it actually accomplishes anything to go in and vote, arbitrarily, only for the candidate(s) for judge who are cross-endorsed by the Working Families Party.

Our supreme court isn't an appeals court at all: it's at the same first level as civil court, criminal court, and family court. Then the "Appellate Division" and the Court of Appeals.

Still, we don't have the only weird names: over in Massachusetts, the highest state court is the "Supreme Judicial Court" because the legislature is also called a "court."

Does your candidate (whomever it is!) have any chance of winning whatsoever BUT NOT a landslide?

I'm guessing (they haven't said) that there are the same number of candidates as positions, making the whole thing pretty pointless. Still, voting is a Thing I Do, so we may yet go (I could even exercise after work and still get uptown in time).
