I'm moderately proud of my state, though upset that it didn't pass with more votes. Still, the passing's the thing, right? In another generation or two we'll wonder what all the fuss was about!

Naturally, the comments over at yahoo are a pain. "This isn't the time, there are more important things to worry about!" Well, it's never the right time to right a wrong, is it? If the "more important" squad had their way we'd still be living in the Dark Ages!

If someone wants to argue that this isn't the time to spend a billion dollars on something because we need it more for something else, okay. But it's not as though the state legislature would have been doing something else useful with the time, nor as though they aren't allowed to stay in Albany as long as they like if there's a lot to do. And if the "more important" squad really thought there were more important issues, they could just shut up and let us make the changes they think are insignificant, so they could focus on hiring better teachers, or rebuilding the Erie Canal, or whatever they think is "more important." For something that "isn't important," certain right-wing groups are willing to throw an awful lot of money and time into this.

Hey, passing with even a narrow margin is much better than it not passing at all! I really wish the converse had been the case when a "marriage definition" law was voted in by the residents of my state. >.< It passed 57% to 43%, and most of the yes votes were concentrate in the rural portions of the state, which pissed me off.

And yeah, those types of comments are bullshit. =P

You're not in Texas by any chance are you? (http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-5700676-503544.html)

(Also, as I've seen it said elsewhere by [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge - now there's a public record of 29 state senators to not vote for next time around.)

Nope, but I just PMed you as to my location (this entry is public, and I don't want the general Internet to know where I'm from).

Needless to say, the article on the Texas marriage law doesn't surprise me one bit. =P Talk about cutting off one's nose to spite the whole face (or however that saying goes), or shooting themselves in the foot. =P

I am quite pleased. Tired and allergic, but pleased. I think this will really help a lot of people, and it will help the larger cause as well. I'm just too tired to say much about it. Plus, I'm not sure there's much to say other than yay!
