This evening I saw on the news several Iraqi that were enraged that the other Arab nations had not come to their aid in ridding them of the heathens that are ravaging their country. I understand them well.

It is quite appalling what the heathens have been doing to the natives. It is also quite strange that people are so shocked that the soldiers actually have done horrendous things to the Iraqi. Do people not realise how soldiers are trained for war?

They are all but stripped of their humanity in regard to their enemy.

I oppose war with my whole being, it is not right, even though the stupidity of several men make in a necessity.

In the prison case, they apparently were not only inadeaquately trained for the job at hand but were ordered to "soften them up".

Why is it that we tend to think of our own as infallible? We are just as human as the next person, be we American, European, African, Asian, Australian or (Antarctican?). I feel so inadequately equipped against the wrongs of the world.

What do you mean by inadequately trained? Were they just some lads that had been thrown into a war, just like that, and given the responsibility of handling prisoners?

What is it like in an US prison, I can but wonder?

1. Pretty much. They weren't trained to do that job, and they were also (I think) fairly low-ranking as well, which could imply that they shouldn't've had that responsibility.

2. Pretty bad. I mean, every time somebody on TV goes to jail, there's a crack about all the rape. That should really be the first clue that it's fucked up. Yes, TV isn't real life. But it mirrors it.

Well... yes, about prisons, one has learned a lot about the abuse the inmates tolerate from one another, but what of the guards? How can people be so inhumane? In particular since the US is mainly populated by Christians (or so I am told), and from what I have learned of Christian religion, it is supposed to revere the human and to practice mercy upon even the evildoer, and also to disallow harm to be done upon others.

Ughh...most Christians aren't true Christians. I doubt I am in several ways, but I'm one of the few who has a reverence for the life and welfare of other people. The guys who killed Jamez? I pity them more than I hate them (which I do not...I do hate what they DID) and have less of an issue with the one who confessed. Even if I were to *shudder* become pregnant, I think I would have too much respect for the little one to abort on purpose.

This is why I cannot stand Bush being President. he's a greedy, honorless, warmongering waif who seriously does NOT need to be in office any longer. It's already been too long, and that is such a hypocritical, HURTFUL thing he said (on Uly's original post) if he did indeed say it! Although it's good (I believe) that Hussein is no longer the tyrant over Iraq, there still was NO CAUSE for all the bloodshed, deaths, destruction, and mayhem.

I have far more respect for Kerry, who went into war and fought with all his heart because it was his "duty" and his order, and then when he was no longer in the military he PUBLICLY OPPOSED WAR. I may not agree with everything he stands for, but I certainly agree with MUCH more than with Bush! Example: Kerry's views on the environment please me.

Funny, most of the people who go on about "True Christians" are the hateful type. It's stupid, really, but people do it. I've never understood the reasoning of those who put the old testament before the new and call themselves Christian anyway....

The only parts of the Old Testament I regard more highly than parts of the New are the Ten Commandments and the book of Isaiah.

"Christian" literally means "follower of Christ". I don't recall Him EVER being violent or hateful, even toward those who persecuted and tortured Him. He was the epitome of love, logic in faith, blunt honesty when needed, and mercy.

Yes, Kerry seems to be a lot better candidate than Bush. What I like the best about if of what I have seen is that he seems to be a man of the world, and that is always a good thing for a leader of a big country.

Come to think of it. Might Christ have been with a mild case of AS? Seeing as how he was, as you say, blunt, logical, opposing of discrimination, against violence, had a penchant for sharing his views on the world, et cetera. Just a thought though, I have no real knowledge of Christ or Christianity, per se, since I am not of that faith and have not really been paying society much attention.
