So, the recent LJ kerfluffle

conulyAs it happens, DW issued new invite codes just a short while ago. That certainly is convenient!
So if you want one, I've got six to give away.
That said, I just don't understand what LJ was thinking. And when I say that, I'm not even talking about the privacy concerns. That's a valid concern, yes (especially when talking about Facebook, right?), but no.
I'm talking about this:
WHY WOULD YOU WANT YOUR COMMENTS TO CROSSPOST ANYWHERE?
I mean, looking at the comments to the news post (someplace we at least expect most people to be topical), there's still a lot of comments like:
1. Hey! That's MY name! :P<
2. god I hope I'm not first!
3. pinback? horrible band.
4. Ha ha god your icon is so appropriate to the situation. ♥
5. +1
And that's just on the first page!
Even comments that have more content often make no sense without the context of the post or comment they're replying to... and if everybody is so concerned about privacy that these things will, uh, stay private then, again, how is that going to work?
As far as privacy concerns go - duh. LJ can't prevent people from typing out whatever you've said, but at least they can keep from making it easy for them!
