Stupid people, stupid people.
Apr. 28th, 2004 10:55 amApparently, fixing the 1/9 station at the boat would "disrupt local residents". Well, too bad. That station is a firetrap. During rush hour, it's impossible to get down or up the stairs. You've got an entire train's worth of people crammed into only half the train, which, incidentally, doesn't come close to meeting the platform. They use those extenderthingies on it. Yes, the new (temporary) entrance is better than the old one, but that only highlights exactly how bad the situation is.
I might be a little selfish, but I think the fact that 1. they've been promising to fix that station for years, and haven't yet and 2. it's not only a major commute-stop but also a major tourist-stop and 3. IT IS DANGEROUS really outweighs "it might disrupt local residents and a de facto 9/11 memorial (which can be moved, after all....)
