BTW, which do YOU say? Duct tape or duck tape? Surprisingly, the duck tape version apparently came first and duct tape is the eggcorn... or so I've heard, anyway. There's some debate, but I think the duck tape version is funny to say, and it gives me an excuse for one of my favoritest icons.

I've always said "duck tape" and attributed it to the pronunciation of ask pronounced like "axe" and birthday like "berfday." Those are the two words that I've had the most trouble saying correctly. :)

This is even more appropriate today, since we've spent the afternoon watching The Red Green Show clips. I keep trying to find the episode where Red Green tries to fix a cracked windshield with duct tape.

Duck tape is a specific brand of duct tape. I'm not certain if it's the original brand.

I seem to recall hearing it was originally called "duck tape" because it was adhesive on cotton duck -- a type of fabric. I'm pretty certain Duck(tm) brand duct tape is a recent innovation.

I always say duck tape, even though I know it's wrong. Lazy I guess.

There is no way you could consistently pronounce both ts in duct tape when speaking, no more than you could (or would) say both bs in rabbit or both ls in collar.

Hmm. Well I *can* do it but it's awkward; I put a little pause between the words. It sounds silly though! :P
