And I'm all flattered now. It does occur to me that the Michelle Dawson situation (hate that word!) has taken up quite a few of my recent posts, and may take up more, so I thought I might make a special friends group for autistic-related stuff. If you want to opt out of this group, now is your chance. And I might not go ahead with this group anyway, so don't get your hopes up.

I don't mind anything here being posted, but much of it isn't relevant, some of it, in fact, really ought to be deleted from my memories.... the whole thing needs to be cleared out. So, I have a list of MY favorite entries here:

That's far shorter than I thought it would be. Most of my memories are really just dreck, or just very short. I ought to clear them out this week. In fact, I think I shall.

Anyway, I suspect the one responding to the one responding to Michelle Dawson's essay is the relevant one right now, so here it is, nice and in the open.

Oh, and nobody minds the icon, right?

(edit) Oh, and on the name-thing, I did say in my reply to the post, but either Uly or Connie Baker is fine. I like Uly but my actual name sounds better in that it's an actual name. I draw the line at my full name (Constance Evangeline Baker) though. That sounds impressive but entirely too hifalutin'.

I say go for it -- sounds like an AUsome idea! I'll be there...er...just as soon as I figure out what LJ groups are...

I've followed Michelle's work pretty closely, as well as the recent plague of parents and professionals trying to assassinate her. I've been trying pretty hard, but I just can't figure out what I want to say about it all -- except, of course, that Lenny-Boy is a mindless snarling bigot, not to mention a stinking liar. It's just that all this is so enmeshed with everything else that's so totally fupped-up about this world -- every time I start trying to write about it, I find myself just polishing any one of the three-dozen sociological manifestos that have been brewing in my head for the last twenty years. Annoying. Just wanna shave my head and live in a cave for a century or two. Next stop, Tibet.

Lj groups? Communities, you mean? They're just what they sound like, places where you post relevant stuff and other people reply without having to go to your journal and read all the stuff that's not related to what they want to know (like asperger's or breastfeeding or being childfree).

As for the world... just breathe. Nice, deep breaths. Doesn't that feel better? Okay, try lying to yourself, then.

Hee. Funny you should mention those two particular options. I tried lying to myself for many years (which is, of course, the most popular method of "coping" by far) but I never could figure out how to apply the technique effectively. The second method-of-choice, that of accumulating influence and/or money (power) and weilding it indiscriminantly against others, that was always so totally alien to me that I couldn't even figure out where to begin the practice. So, naturally, I eventually found my way to breath-centered meditation as an all-purpose coping-strategy.

As panaceas go, it's second only to death itself.

I mean that in a good way.

Unless you mean what is a friends group. A friends group is a filter YOU use to either pick and choose what people you read when you go to your friends list (I have a group just for communities, and another just for comics) or to keep certain people from reading certain posts (I have a friends group that includes only members of my family for posts like "Jenn, I wont' be able to make it to your house tonight" and another group that only includes my close friends for posts like "I really miss my dad and want to talk". This group would be for posts about autism) The only way you opt out of somebody else's friends group is by asking them not to make one that includes you.

Oops. I never ever check my email if I can help it... I'll go check that now. I actually have a small problem with my essay on the site. My actual diagnosis, which fits what I know on the subject, is of asperger's, and I'm not starting that argument about spectrum disorders again, I just don't want the sillies to think I'm deliberately misrepresenting myself, or you are. I actually call myself autistic more often than not, it's an easier word, but I thought you might like to be aware of that.
