It is also the first day of Ana's vacation, and it was BEAUTIFUL out, so we headed straight out to the playground. Ana was in a grumpy mood ALL day, but she did make an effort to pull herself together and behave despite that, and I'm really proud of her. It's hard, and she's just little still. (Apparently she had a bad dream last night about somebody breaking into our house. She mentioned at dinner that she keeps thinking of it, which might explain her dream. I had the same theme in my dream, and they're probably both triggered by the fact that one of our neighbors *did* have her house broken into a week ago!)

Going on the boat we ran into Ana's friend Lili, who is Jewish, which became the point of an object lesson at dinner time - sorry, Lili! We talked, at dinner, about how Easter is coming and how Passover is here, and that they're always pretty close together, and that being Jewish means having certain holidays instead of the ones we celebrate (and other things, of course), and about how on Passover they hide an afikomen the same way we hide Easter eggs. That's a pretty shallow overview, but I was trying to make a connection there that even though they're different they're similar in a way. (And holidays are more deeply similar in that they help mark out the year and mean things to people, but that's a bit much for them, I think.)

We took the train up with Lili, and they EACH got a DOLLAR to give to the MUSICIANS, which was SO COOL, and they stood and danced a while (and I told the person taking photos to knock it off. One picture, whatever. Or if she'd asked, sure. But you don't stand there for five minutes taking pictures of somebody's kids without asking, no matter how cute they are!)

And then we had lunch with my mom and headed back downtown to the playground - I *wish* we had playgrounds closer to us sometimes! Ones that I want to go to, that is.

The playground was insane because, hello, every school in the city has off! and because it's the first really nice day all year. All those other nice days don't really count.

Our trip was notable because, for the first time EVER, Evangeline found her own friend to pal around with. She has friends, but they're my friends' kids, or her sister's friends... and a lot of times she gets shy and clings to me or Ana and refuses to socialize at all with strange kids. I was thrilled.

So yeah, that was our day. On the way home my knee crapped out on me, which was weird. My ankle does that often enough, and I should get that checked, but my knee? Held it together enough to get groceries to make pasta, salad, and green beans for dinner. Mmm. Stuck the tomato paste in the freezer - if it keeps, I'll make chili next week.
