Whee! I have a Dreamwidth account!
Apr. 7th, 2009 07:39 pm(Thank you!)
I'm not going to really really do anything with it at the time, just play around, at least until open Beta, I think. But so many of my friends have posted about DW lately that I suspect, at the very least, I should mirror posts over there when that happens.
Incidentally, one of you must know the answer. They asked me if I wanted to upgrade my account, and gave me a link to the FAQ on account levels. But all the FAQ says is that paid and premium accounts get more features, not what those features are. What are those features, and why doesn't the FAQ list them, or at least give an idea? Have the precise bonuses of paid and premium accounts not been decided upon yet? If I decide I like DW once it's in the full swing of things (given all the glowing reports of how it's being run and developed now I feel fairly confident I'll like the management a lot better than LJ, at least, and that's crucial) I'd be glad to pay for it. I believe in supporting what I use. But it's nice to know what the tangible reward is!

Date: 2009-04-08 02:22 am (UTC)I'll be honest, I wanted the DW account largely because enough of my friendslist is squeeing over it (nobody, in any of the moves, was actually *enthusiastic* about IJ or Myspace or wherever else, not like this) that I think saving my name over there is a prudent step. I'm catching their enthusiasm but, not having been a huge part of the development, I'm not as invested in it (yet).
There have been some very well-written (and LONG) posts by others on why the DW concept is a good one. I can dig a few up.

Date: 2009-04-08 09:45 am (UTC)Paid account documentation especially is very thin on the ground, because the payment system is still being built, which makes it a little tricky to document. Most probably, there'll be a table of stuff saying what accounts get what features on the same page where you go to buy paid accounts, so the faq will just give an overview (like it does now) and point to the place to get full details.

Date: 2009-04-09 01:32 am (UTC)Well, it's a new site, still in closed beta. So long as it's fixed by the time it's open-open, past beta, I'm not too concerned about cultishness :)
