Date: 2009-03-09 04:53 am (UTC)I think a lot depends on what sort of ambitions you have. It's not like mining diamonds in Africa or climbing Mount Everest really does most of the world much good. Curing cancer would be nice though. If you're talking really selfish ambitions though, I don't mind if fewer people have them.
The article's attitudes toward women though were incredibly awful. I sent the quotes to a friend just in a sort of o.O way. I know it's because this is so long ago and there have been so many changes, but we're not being subtle about viewing women as property here. Nor in insulting women who want to have a career and a family (presumably because a desire to have a family means you don't really want a career and deep-down you just want to raise kids and oh you silly women playing at jobs, isn't it adorable how they coo). Gah.
I am glad for the changes.
