Ana's class went on a trip to Historic Richmond Town. She came back very excited. Why? Because she had seen...

a wheelbarrow!

She wouldn't shut up about it! (Oh, and she learned what a cloak is, which is useful information.)

I suppose she doesn't know about wheelbarrow rides or how to pick a chicken yet, either. :-(

Poor child. (Does she know about daisy chains? Catching grasshoppers? Or the endless possibilities of some sticks and string?)

Daisies don't grow as profusely here, though I've tried to show her how to make clover chains.

Grasshoppers aren't common in our area, though lightning bugs are. And dragonflies, in some parts. When I was a kid, we lived in a part of the city that was full of dragonflies, but no lightning bugs. Then we moved here, and the situation was different. We have a lot of praying mantises as well. And salamanders, and snakes (I say a lot, but I've only ever seen three wild snakes in my life, so you may scoff now).

Sticks, now. Can't tear the girls away from sticks.

And you know, fyi, a surprising number of families in our surrounding area (that is, within... I guess a six or ten block radius) keep chickens, or have in the very recent past.

Every few years some enterprising soul decides to try turkeys, as well, but that never turns out like you might think. (And I think we have some wild turkeys in the area as well, but they may have been escapees.)
