STEP ONE
# Make a post (public, friends-locked, filtered... whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of ten holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV"). The important thing is to make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
# If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) can get in touch with you. Your home address is not required!
# Make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, or link to this post (it'll be public) so that the holiday joy will spread.

STEP TWO
# Surf around your friends list (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now, here's the important part...
# If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes one person's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use - or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free - do it.
# You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf - to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not - it's your call. There are no guarantees with this project, and no strings attached. Just... wish, and it might come true. Give and you might receive. You'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

1. I don't really want or need much. I'd much rather you guys spend $10 on yourselves and get something you really want.

2. However, if you're bound and determined to get stuff for moi, the nieces do need some things. Specifically, Evangeline needs some 3T pants (with a slim waist is appreciated, as she's diaperfree and has been for a while), Ana needs some size 5 long sleeved shirts, they'd both like some normal-wear long sleeved dresses, and I was hoping to get Ana some long navy blue skirts from French Toast for school, because the ones she has aren't really long enough for winter. They could both use some decorative tights as well, especially Evangeline - all they have really are Ana's heavy tights for school. And I guess Ana could use a pair of navy blue sweatpants that actually fits.

3. I have seven slots to fill. So slot three is "Find an organization that donates solar ovens to places that need them, donate some cash". Solar ovens can do so much good. People - often women - will not have to spend hours finding firewood, nor most of their cash buying firewood. People - often women and children - will not have to spend hours over smoky fires, breathing in toxic fumes and putting themselves at risk of injuries from fire. Because trees won't be cut down as much, and because there won't be as many cookfires spewing greenhouse gasses into the environment, you'd be fighting global warming in two ways. Think about it. Solar ovens.

4. Not your choice? Annoyed at the small number of organizations providing solar ovens to those in need? (I know I am.) Okay. Donate some money to the charity of your choice, but don't say it's "for me" unless it's one I ideologically support. If you're not sure, go with something harmless like Toys for Tots.

5. No, I really don't want anything. But I need a half-decent digital camera - can be totally used so long as it works and can be recharged - so I can finally start putting my mom's stuff on Etsy and selling it. We have a camera, somewhere, but somewhere isn't much help.

6. I also really do need a new (or used) bookcase for the niece's books.

7. The nieces could do with a subscription to any of these magazines. Alternatively, your local library, Children's Museum, shelter, or school would probably like a subscription. Think about it.

8. Three slots left, counting this one. Let's see.... I could use socks. People will always insist on buying books instead...! (Admittedly, that's why I don't have any socks. I keep spending my sock (and bra... and shoe!) money on books instead :)

9. I could use more craft supplies, and some triangular pencil grips for Ana-banana. And books, of course. Did you know you can buy used books? OMG. Talk about rocking my world! USED BOOKS! They're, like, a lot cheaper than the other kind!

10. Damn, one more slot to fill? Uh... Well, here's the impossible one. I want my piano fixed. I want to play the piano, and for that I need my piano.

If you tell me your wishlist, or even just post a few requests in comments, I'll link to it here if you like.

BTW, if you're actually going to get me something? You really don't have to, but email me at conuly AT yahoo and I'll send you my address.

Would a digital camera that takes rechargeable batteries be acceptable? I have one that I no longer use lying around somewhere .
