Another update on Alex Barton

Somebody elsewhere tried turning this into a commentary on mainstreaming, and why this proves that it's not appropriate or something (and when I was young there was no diagnosis Asperger, so this kid would never be "mainstreamed", would he. He'd just be in the regular classroom as a matter of course, and people would have to deal), ever - and I'm still upset. How is that relevant to the fact that the teacher acted wrongly?

"Oh, well we don't know the whole story."

Well, yeah. I've been following this story. I know we don't have the whole story, and I know people are so upset that it's quite likely we'll never have the whole story. But what we have of the story is that the teacher admitted to using the other students to - in the best possible light here - discipline another student.

Five year olds, too.

I'm not really sure what other part of the story is going to justify that.

Bullshit victim-blaming denial. I'm so fucking sick of people justifying abuse and violence towards people with less power with that phrase. Just BULLSHIT!! There is always more concern for the people with the power than there is for the victims. I fucking hate this world, I really really do. (Yes, people have used that exact phrase when trying to justify my parents abuse of me - how could you tell? /sarcasm)

We know enough of the story to know that she did something really, really wrong there by bringing this matter to a vote / group reaction within the class.

Precisely. His behavior isn't the concern, he is a very young child with some difficulties above and beyond his classmates. If he's actually so disruptive that he is hindering the other children, that's another issue that should be discussed separately, and privately until his family decides to make the issue public.

The only thing that concerns me right now is the teacher's behavior, because that's demonstrably wrong.

By reading the report of the incident and the continuing abuse by the teacher when the mom talked to her, it seems more apparent to me that the teacher hated that child, had it out for him, and is proud of humiliating him. Someone who is going to resort to such abuse should not be teaching.
