Federal court rules against military gays policy
Now, don't get too excited yet - "The three judges from the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals did not strike down the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy. But they reinstated Maj. Margaret Witt's lawsuit, saying the Air Force must prove that her dismissal furthered the military's goals of troop readiness and unit cohesion."
So that war's not really won yet. But still!

I must commend the ACLU, they picked a good one. If the Air Force didn't know she was a lesbian before they were told, then it obviously wasn't affecting unit cohesion or morale much, was it? And she held a vital position, didn't she?
Eventually, yes, I hope they'll realize that this is really stupid. If nothing else, I'd almost rather they went back to the "ask, tell, and reject" policy -- this compromise we've got in place is repugnant to both sides.
