One last post, before I sleep.

How do I stop being one of Ana's favorite people? She'll randomly come and call up the steps for me. I don't understand it. I wouldn't like me if I were two. I pull her hair, for Gods' sake, and she likes me! (Not hard, just a tug on a braid, but then I have to tug the other one(s) to make it even....) And I pinch her nose! (Well, okay, only after singing the "snipped off her nose" song, and now I'm trying to encourage her to pinch other people's noses at the end of that song - other people who aren't me, that is, but that's not the point.) And it's all very disconcerting, and it makes me nervous. Sure, she's one of my favorite people, but I don't have any expectations of her! But she clearly thinks I'm wonderful, and I'm not, and if she doesn't stop it soon it's just going to get worse as she gets older. I'm all scared.

Nobody who is wonderful thinks they are. Thinking you are wonderful, by definition, makes you not-wonderful.

Just love her back, to the best of your ability. After all, isn't she wonderful?

She's Ana. She can't help but be. Besides, she's two. She obviously has an insanely inflated idea of me (and everyone else, but right now it's me, I think) and it's scary.

I think little kids automatically really like anyone who gives them lots of attention. Well, as long as that attention is positive, anyway.

Her view of you will probably get more realistic as she gets older.

Treat a child with respect and give it a steady stream of attention and it'll adore you. Rule of the universe.

The kids that I babysit for, two girls aged four and two, think that I am the absolute greatest. I enjoy it while I can. It makes them easier to look after, and anyway, they'll grow out of it when they realize how uncool I am for not wearing makeup and dressing like Brittany Spears. :P
