So, after that post, I realized that the best way to get by while doing the minimum possible amount of hard labor was to found a cult... I mean, a new religion. There's bound to be people after the end of the world going around looking for religion, or hoping to switch religions, and why can't I fill that void? (Note: I want no comments pointing out that preaching is actually quite a difficult job, nor that belief is a prerequisite for religious office. Entirely irrelevant to the rest of this post.)

So I'm thinking about this, and wondering - is it okay to just crib cool holidays off of other people just because I like them? And I'm thinking and pondering when I realize, duh, people always have done that! Just look at Christmas!

So now I'm wondering - what are the coolest holidays you know of? They can be entirely fictional, even - if I've got a cult of my very own, are my followers really going to check details? Besides, in the end of the world, maybe Google won't exist anymore.

Dude. Any holiday where one traditionally dresses up in costumes and shakes noisemakers and is required - required - to get roaringly drunk is a good one in anybody's book.

Well then Mardi Gras/Carnivale type holidays are in order, and even things like Fasching/Rosenmontag. Supposedly if you wore a tie that day to work, people around you would be allowed to cut it off. Shrove Tuesday is pancakes right? These are all the German equivalents of the pre-lenten festivities.

Course, then I need to have some form of Lent.

Well, it's only sensible. Pre-fast holidays are only fun if afterwards you stop having them for a while.

Modify Ramadan for that for the pre-blowout festivals?

I like the seasonal change festivals. Whether it's a solstice/equinox festival or Easter/Thanksgiving/Christmas-type festivals doesn't really matter all that much to me. And I think at least one festival should involve watching a glorious sunrise.
