So, after that post, I realized that the best way to get by while doing the minimum possible amount of hard labor was to found a cult... I mean, a new religion. There's bound to be people after the end of the world going around looking for religion, or hoping to switch religions, and why can't I fill that void? (Note: I want no comments pointing out that preaching is actually quite a difficult job, nor that belief is a prerequisite for religious office. Entirely irrelevant to the rest of this post.)
So I'm thinking about this, and wondering - is it okay to just crib cool holidays off of other people just because I like them? And I'm thinking and pondering when I realize, duh, people always have done that! Just look at Christmas!
So now I'm wondering - what are the coolest holidays you know of? They can be entirely fictional, even - if I've got a cult of my very own, are my followers really going to check details? Besides, in the end of the world, maybe Google won't exist anymore.

Date: 2007-10-06 09:54 am (UTC)I like the seasonal change festivals. Whether it's a solstice/equinox festival or Easter/Thanksgiving/Christmas-type festivals doesn't really matter all that much to me. And I think at least one festival should involve watching a glorious sunrise.

Date: 2007-10-06 08:40 am (UTC)Throughout the year you find cute, neat little gifts (not too expensive) and set them aside. Then you wrap them up nicely and put them all in a bag. Then you go about your day and whenever you see someone for the first time that day, you let them pull one item from the bag. Stop when the bag is empty.
Random people get random gifts; it's not too expensive, and you don't have too much obligation on anyone's part.
