I'm not a perfect speller. I misspelled separate today, as I often do. It just LOOKS wrong with an a instead of an e. But I do spell marginally correctly.

Compare:

Hi I'm a history idiot and I have a huge test in my AP US History class tomorrow that I know nothing about so I was wondering i you all ould help a littl please!!

This was posted in a history community I read.

First off, I found the concept mildly offensive. We have nothing better to do than to do your homework FOR you? People generally don't mind helping, but most of us draw the line at doing your homework (and that was what she was asking, though I didn't c+p that part). And of course the fact that a "history idiot" is taking an AP class and didn't think to study until today.

However, let's look at the spelling. See all the typos? Now, I am told I type very quickly, 87 wpm. I don't make that many mistakes. When I make a mistake, I see it, and immediately correct it. If you're typing slowly, you should be able to not make mistakes. If you're typing quickly, you should be able to see the screen and notice when you've messed up. Either way, it seems to me that common courtesy would dictate that you at least scan your work and change obvious mistakes like "ould" and "littl" before posting. Possibly even capitalize correctly. Even if you can't do this... LJ has a spell-check feature. I seriously am starting to see this as disrespectful... you care so little for our opinions of you that you don't even bother to run spell-check? Frankly, I don't see how you can go on the internet for more than a week without finding that most people WILL judge you on your spelling. And if you're going to ask for something, the least you could do is pretend to care about their opinions and present yourself the best way possible.

My English professor does the same thing. She talks and talks about "spellcheck isn't good enough", but you look at the handouts and emails you get from her, she obviously doesn't even bother with that. So we're supposed to have a higher quality of work than she is.

Hope you don't mind me

I never spellcheck on LiveJournal, but I also never post in forums asking for help with homework.

Part of it is probably my pride at being a hyperlexic autist, part of it is my use of neologisms and foreign phrases, and part of it is that I'm just lazy.

This is spell checked and capitalized...

I wasn't even going to post any comments here...I was just taking a look at your journal to get a better idea of who the person was who was so nice to me, and I came across this entry that was blatently insulting me.
I didn't mind the posts, I don't take anything online too seriously; but this got to me just a little. See, unlike you I take the time to get to know someone before I judge them. I read your user info and scanned through your journal a little and the ironc thing about this whole situation is we actually have a lot in common. I also want to major in Spanish, and I love neopets...I just don't spell check.
So since you asked people to do this here goes...you offended me. I'll even tell you how. The comments for one, assuming that I don't study, implying that I am an idiot, saying that I am its a disgrace for me to be in an AP class...you don't even know anything about me.
Im not even trying to start a virtual fight here, I'm just trying to say that maybe I'm not as horrible as you appear to think I am...because you don't seem like as big of a bitch as I thought you were.
So PEACE...seriously, lets have a truce. I think if we met under any other circumstances we might have actually got along.
And I'm also a comment whore

Forget the spelling. That's minor in this example. The punctuation is really annoying.

I'm in AP US- AP classes are in general open to anyone at my school unless they are failing, so they are full of people who cannot do what an AP class requires to get good grades AND do well on the AP test:
-Extensive notes
-Good writing skills, including spelling because in the AP test you have write essays sans spell checker
-Studying, rereading text
etc.
There is no easy way out of studying and no way some sort of internet help the day before a test could help...

I type pretty fast, as well. I'm not sure if its 87 wpm or what, but I know I type pretty fast, for my age, too. I don't look down when I type, so yeah, when I make a typo, I correct it because I see it right away. Sometimes, I just don't notice, until I read it or re-read it.

I don't like it when people type like "o hey wutz ^ o s/h itz so0o gr8!!!" Agh, that's horrible. When I talk on AIM, I don't talk CLOSE to that. Lol, brb and lmao are some of the only shortcuts I use.

My brothers teachers, when they email my mom, half the time they don't use capitals, periods or bother checking the spelling. I don't that's good for a teacher..
