I found this while reading friendsfriends, and wow, I'm angry. PPD is common, preventable, treatable, and not really all that likely to result in harm or neglect. It's really scary that the mere possibility of it could be considered a valid reason to remove children from their parents' custody, as a nebulous PPD risk factor could be used as an excuse to seize children from just about anyone.

The fact that they only have quotes from the grandfather makes me wonder if there isn't something else going on that he's not mentioning, that might make the social workers' actions make more sense. His daughter might have done or said something to make them think she was unstable (in which case he might not even know) or there might be a family problem.

I almost hope that's the case, because then it's a matter of judging a specific situation as unsafe instead of deciding that all autistic people are too crazy to have kids.
