Occasionally after an injury, blood collects and pools under the skin (hematoma), giving the skin a spongy, rubbery, lumpy feel. A regular bruise is more spread out and may not feel like a firm lump. A hematoma usually is not a cause for concern. It is not the same thing as a blood clot in a vein, and it does not cause blood clots.

Can anybody show me a picture of this? Google image search is *not* helpful.

A bruise is a (kind of) hematoma. What you need is to find the proper name for the type of hematoma that is lumpy like that.

Where did you get that definition?

Try spelling it hAematoma and see if any of those pictures are ok.

Contusion. That's another word for bruise, but not sure of the proper definition for that either.

I was having enough trouble trying to explain syndromes versus diseases today to Danny. I'm totally going to screw up on this whole 'education' aspect of nursing. I can't explain diddly squat to people.
