You know what's a surreal experience?
Aug. 24th, 2006 12:17 amSitting with a pair of kids, three years and a little younger, and listening to them have a conversation, all by themselves, with no adult interactions whatsoever.
It's... weird. I still think of these kids, most of whom I've been seeing for months now, as babies, barely talking - and here they are chattering away at each other! Having real, adult-like conversations!
Frankie: So, Ana, what did you do today?
Ana: I went to the museum!
Frankie: You did?
Ana: Yeah. I woke up, and I had pancakes, and I went outside, and on the bus, and to the park, and to the museum!
(later)
Frankie: Ana-ana! Come play with me!
Ana: No, I'm drawing.
Frankie: Ana! Come play with the chalk!
Ana: Frankie! No! I'm busy, I can play later.
It doesn't sound like much, but I'm still not used to it. It's been months now, but I'm still not used to it.
Edit: In other news, the baby, when she saw Jenn putting on the sling to take her on a "shortwalk" around the block, crawled enthusiastically on over, plopped herself down in front of her mom, and lifted up her arms expectantly. Of course, when *I* tried putting her in the sling to put her to sleep more easily today, she cried and fussed because she saw right through my plan (or maybe just because she was sleepy). Smart kid either way :)
