I used to never talk to cashiers or anything. If I went to a fast food place, I would write out my order rather than talk to the person. My family was delegated to order for me in restaurants (and, to an extent, still is).

I really don't like talking to people I don't know. Partially because I don't like talking to people I don't know, and partially because I have a tendancy to be misunderstood when speaking, which is embarrassing.

Knowing how badly I view my handwriting, you can understand how much I really didn't want to talk to people.

I have, in the past few years, begun stammering in uncomfortable situations. This made Latin class annoying, to say the least. I wonder, now that I think about it, if this is connected with my having effectively "lost" (through choice and apathy) the option to simply not talk to people.

As to which one is worse, well, who knows? At least I *can* do things like call and order food on the phone now, even if I still don't *like* to do so.

that's interesting. I don't mind talking to people in general, but every time I call the chinese restaurant near school, the woman makes me repeat myself 50 times. she can't understand me. One night I was really in the mood for chinese food and I was talking to my friend(who goes to another school about 3 hours away) and mentioned how I didn't want to call...so she called for me. and then called me back to tell me how long it would be. it's a good thing that place is terrible, otherwise I'd have a lot more problems trying to order from it.

It's good though that you can do it if you need to, even though I totally understand not wanting to.

See!! I've *always* told Connie that those Chinese places can do that to *everyone*, that it is not her fault lol.

haha it's just the woman that answers the phones there-she doesn't *actually* speak english, even though she thinks she does. it is not fun. But no, it's probably not Connie's fault. :)
