Fridays, prior to Drumming Circle, we go to the SICM and cook. They're making ice cream all summer long. Yesterday was Root Beer Floats.

Which we didn't make, but what could we have done?

We left the house at 10:00. This is an hour late, but all that means is we're missing the toddler program. No great loss there, Ana's largely outgrown the Friday program, and the baby's not really old enough for it yet (though she loves the bubbles, and will be old enough soon).

We catch the 10:20 bus. I get on, Ana gets on, I dig out my Metrocard and sit. And notice Ana has something in her mouth.

Me: Ana, open your mouth.
Ana: *turns head all the way away from me and opens her mouth*
Me: (a little irritated) Ana. Look at me and say Aaaah. Now.
Ana: *looks at me, opens mouth - there's something in it, not sure what*
Me: Spit it out.
Ana: *hands over mouth, mumbled NO!*
Me: SPIT. IT. OUT. *trying to dig into Ana's mouth to get it out*
Random Person: Well, what does she have in her mouth?
Me: (WTF?) I don't know, and I don't care, it doesn't belong there. ANA! Spit it out, or we will get off and go home!
Ana: *shakes head and swallows*

So, off we went.

Walked back to the bus stop by the overpass, caught the bus home. Ana by now was going "Connie? I don't wanna go home, I want to go to the museum" and "Connie, I all better now, can we go to the museum", but as I told her, I couldn't do that. It wouldn't be fair to her to teach her that she can do things she's not supposed to and get away with it. Eating stuff on the bus can make you sick. Ew.

Got home at 10:36. Two bus stops, that's as far as we got.

I was so not happy. I gave Ana a time-out when we got home, on top of not going to the museum, and over the course of the day at least two people (her mom and mine) gave her lectures on why she didn't get to go to the museum. Her dad may have done so today as well, I don't know.

And I had wanted to go to the museum! I really wanted those root beer floats!!!!

But there was nothing to be done for it, really. I said we'd get off the bus and go home, and that's what we had to do. You can't make a threat like that and not enforce it. That's just all kinds of wrong. It's wrong, on top of wrong, with a big heaping spoonful of wrong for desert.

The day before, I caught her hiding under the table eating margarine. That's not an immediate health risk (I mean, aside from the eventual results of cholesterol), but she's still not allowed to do it. And as I tell her to put it back in the fridge, you know what she does? She takes another bite.

*sighs*

I don't know. I just don't know.
