I can make my own bialys.

Dude. This will so seriously revolutionize my life. Now, my own oven doesn't work, so, Jenn? Hope you don't mind me camping out in your house. Now that it's summer, prime baking time is... uh... approximately 3am. Hope that's okay with you!

Ohhh, I haven't had a bialy in decades! I haven't had a decent bagel, either, but at least they have something here they call "bagels." No one here has even heard of a bialy.

I've gotten out of touch over the years with my friends in Brooklyn, but they used to bring me care packages of bagels and lox when they came to visit. Here the bagels are too soft, and we have "smoked salmon" but it isn't real lox.

I don't miss the city at all ... except for the food. I miss the food. Oh, what I'd give for a good lean corned beef sandwich and a nice square crisp potato knish. =sigh=

Oh, out-of-NYC bagels definitely don't count. As someone who was born and raised there and lived in the Bronx for the first 22 years of my life and then on the island for another 6 or 7, I know what good bagels are, and I know that they don't exist in other places. What they call bagels here are too soft -- only slightly chewier than bread.

In general the food in Baltimore doesn't compare, and I shouldn't even mention DC food and NYC food in the same sentence.
