2008 can't come soon enough for me. Regime change begins at home.

The thing that scares me the most about this is the thought of the things that the bush government is currently doing becoming precedent. Neither the republicans nor the democrats should have the powers that are going on here and politicians are so back-stabbey sometimes that I can easily imagine the democrats attempting to use the same powers just to rub them in the face of the republicans. No one will try to patch the holes. Things will simply escalate. Everything will fall apart,

I read about that when it was in the Post -- but of course the Post dropped the whole thing once they reported it. The American media have the attention span of a gnat. Good for Conyers! I'm glad someone is doing something about it!

I'm waiting to see what the Republicans do when the Democrats finally get back in power and start turning the tables on them. The GOP is going to yell bloody murder and the Dems will just say, "You started it."

I wish there were some way to keep all three branches of government from being totally dominated by one party. I don't know how that could be done, since two of them are elected and one is static for long periods of time, but it's dangerous for the country to have the extreme wing of a single party control the Executive office, both houses of Congress and the Supreme Court.
