Well. Most of today, anyway.

She sat on the toilet with no fuss, every time I asked. Well, no fuss once we got into the bathroom.

Other than her incessant playing-with-doors. Honestly, if she unlocks the door on me one more time, I'm going to scream. Girl has no concept of privacy.

And this morning, so cute. She was waiting for the bus with me, leaning over me to see her sister - and she just passes her bear over. I asked her why, out of curiosity, she'd lent one of her favorite bears to her sister. The simple answer she gave, with no thought in advance? "Cuz she wants to play with it!"

So sweet. It's all the honey she sneaks. Oh, we think she doesn't get away with it, but clearly she does - how else did she get to be so sweet?

Kidz Cook today was Manicotti. We do Kidz Cook at the museum every Friday. The kids (kidz?) take turns adding an ingredient, stirring the pot, rolling out dough, whatever - and then they get to have a small taste of whatever was made. It's a nice way to end the week, y'know? Last week was (fresh) Linguini, preceeded by Kuchen. Next week is (a stretch, really) Nosh in the Ballpark. Anybody with kids in the NYC area, the program is for kidz (kids?) up to age 10 or so. It's really a good, solid museum, in a beautiful park. You may wish to plan a visit for a Friday in the summer.

I love this museum, I really do. The other two ACM museums in the city are nice enough, and better funded - but I find them all too slick and overstimulating. Even the BCM, the trip isn't that much longer to get there than to the SICM, but I can't bring myself to go more than once a week. And the CMOM has an insane admission fee for a place that's just chock full of corporate sponsership. If you are that into Dora, be sure to visit their Dora-themed exhibit, but I find that sort of thing tacky in museums. (They do have a very cool water area, though - about the only place in the museum that really stands out in my mind as a good reason to visit the cafeteria-free place.)

Only problem with the SICM is that their funding isn't as great as it could be. They have a lot of great programs, and I love all their exhibits, but nearly all of their exhibits need some fixing up - from holes in fireman jackets to grime on the climbing wall, to missing toys in the sea-themed shapesorter.

It's like I told Jenn when we were discussing museum memberships. A membership to the BCM seems to be cheaper, and it'd get us into the SICM just as well - but I like the SICM more, and I want to support them.

So if you're in the area any time this year, and you have kids, or you can obtain kids, go check it out. It's just a short trip across the bay, and you won't regret it.

(Just don't go during a non-summer school holiday if you can help it. That's craziness.)

just wanted to clarify a misconception-you can indeed reenter CMOM if you leave to get food! Just keep your sticker. I hate to think that people believe they can't return...the stickers are good all day. ;)

I'm fairly sure I'll be working there again this summer...I wonder if I'll see you and the girls. I'm looking forward to new exhibits...I miss the old Seuss one, Alice in Wonderland is very separated..but I'm not sure what's coming into that space before the summer.

I can understand not liking the museum that much. It's a great place to work, and it's actually got really good classes/tour programs, but from as far away as you are, it's not the be all end all of children's museums. It's probably an entirely different thing if you live right around that area. However, I do love the water area quite a bit.

Last year it seemed that Tuesdays were a good day to come in the summer, especially in the morning-people seemed to forget we were open to the public, since it's not during the school year. Any day that's not rainy or super-hot is a good day as well. Most people go to playgrounds and things on those days, but come for shelter on rainy days or air conditioning/water on ridiculously hot days. I know you said you wanted to go to playgrounds in central park-maybe a good playground day would be a good day to take a break and come in for some fun there as well.

If I see any other less crowded times while I'm there, I'll be sure to let you know. Sometimes it can be a real zoo in the place-usually when it's raining.

... it's good to see she has a mix of honey and vinegar.

Does she eat Manuka honey by any chance? It's anti bacterial and very good for colds, flu and sweet little girls.

Honey and vinegar make an awesome dressing.

Better than sugar and spices and priss in my book!
