A visual representation of name-popularity
(Use with Social Security's Site.)

What this site has done is convince me that Bad Baby Names aren't just a modern invention. Well, that's sure a relief.... Minerva, for example, was relatively common before the turn of the century, and remained in the top 1000 until the 60s! That's also when Adolph dropped off the top 1000 baby names list. The 60s.

What's wrong with Minerva? No, seriously. I can see why Adolph has not been popular as of late, but Minerva? Does it sound cranky? It's poifectly fine by me, alas, I'm not a native speaker.

*Puts hand up* I'm a native speaker and I can't see the problem with either name (except the connotation Adolph might now have, although I don't know if that's halted its use in Francophone countries or not.)

I don't see the problem with either, aside from the aforementioned associations with Adolf.
