What offends me here is not the sentiment, but the horrible, horrible lack of poetry skills. People should really think twice before inflicting bad poetry on an unsuspecting world! No wonder this dude is anonymous.
The post I'm copying from came with the silly BIBLE backronym. Basic Instructions? Okay, there's some of that... I guess... stuff like don't eat lobster or work on the sabbath. But the stuff people tend to remember are the stories. And those aren't instructions, per se. (In fact, what people remember about the stories is exactly what they want to remember. Not many people remember that Pharoah was about to let the Israelites go when God "hardened his heart" so as to show off. This makes Pharoah's ensuing punishment a bit distasteful. More than it already was, that is - I always lose that story by the time the Egyptian little kiddies get it, and I like my stories bloodthirsty.)
Plus, the whole thing is trite. Is this what you want people to think about you and your beliefs? That instead of being deep, inspired wisdom, all you have to show for a religion slightly less than 2000 years old is a derivative work and a dumb backronym? With all the gorgeous cathedrals and religious music out there, with all the people who truly do good things for their beliefs, I find this not only hard to believe, but outright insulting! This is what you think is going to reach me? THIS? This is how little you think of people that you think you can't dare to show them something just slightly deeper than a little ditty about how we're gonna go to hell?
Has anybody ever been converted because of such tactics? I know people who've converted from one religion to another, or lost their faith and become atheists/agnostics. Was it really efforts like this which caused/lost you your faith?
