Remember a while back, I talked about the cottages at Snug Harbor? Well, I've been in one of them, and they're really cool. One of Ana's young friends (they're all young, but this one isn't yet two) apparently lives there, Elliot his name is, and today, because it was pouring rain, I offered to lend his mom my umbrella (and I'd use Ana's) if she'd let us hang there until the rain stopped, since I didn't want to wait for the bus in pouring rain. Drizzle, sure, but that's it.
And she did, and we had lunch, and it was good. Ana noticed that he calls his mom "Mommy", so she picked up on that... I'm trying to think of a suitable replacement. She (the mom) didn't like "Ms. Rachel", and Ana wasn't going for "Rachel" either, so maybe "Elliot's mommy" or even "Mommy Rachel", just so nobody thinks she's confused on the whole mother issue. I'm beginning to suspect that she considers mommy and daddy to be general terms for men and women, though...
Jenn's met the woman, but they didn't really talk, which is a shame. I think they'll like each other. Rachel's husband is Flemish, so they have a number of Flemish books, just like Jenn and I grew up on Martine and Babar-in-French, and Elliot still nurses, and Rachel is really into organic, unbleached diapers, real food for kids, that sort of thing. I can't imagine that they wouldn't get along. Oh, and she agrees with me on the pink issue. What's not to love?
The kid's born January 11th, my dad's birthday. My father always, growing up, would get stupid presents from his relatives like "a glove for Christmas, and another for his birthday", which was bad enough, but his brother, born in June, would get two presents. So I'm thinking that, as Ana's been pre-invited to his birthday, I'll get two very small, very inexpensive, clearly different presents for him. That's fair.
And it's worth it to see OMG A SNUG HARBOR COTTAGE! again. I mean... wow. Those things are really cool, and bigger on the inside than they appear to be on the outside.

Date: 2005-10-14 10:40 pm (UTC)I'm thinking a single birthday book, and some simple toy - I'll wait a month to go over it with his mom, no use buying a gift she'll not like or already is getting.

Date: 2005-10-14 10:48 pm (UTC)You can get to it simply by taking the S40 from the boat (same ramp as the 78) and telling the driver to let you off at Snug Harbor. It's not that far.
