Today, she was sitting on 'dul's red chair. And at one point, she leaned a bit over the arm. I yell "NO!" and get up to stop her from doing that, but as I'm moving towards her, she flips over and falls down, landing flat on her back.

And just lies there. Not moving, not crying.

So after I make her wiggle her toes and fingers, and stand up and prove to me that nothing's broken, I give her a hug.

And she heads back for the chair. Okay, I'm thinking, she just fell off, she'll be more careful, right?

Wrong. The very first thing she does is she leans out over the arm and tries to do it again!

And I tell 'dul this, and that I've been not letting her on the chair since, and he says "You could just try telling her not to lean over". Well, really, 'dul, I thought that falling off would be a successful deterrent, but it clearly wasn't. I'm not risking her continued safety on "Don't do that, Ana!".

Jenn thinks that Ana was trying to conquer something on the chair. Like gravity or something.

Moving on, quite a few people have this idea that Ana is more than ordinarily well-behaved. Even people who know her. Her friend Barbara, her mother turned to Barbara the other day to say "look how well Ana listens to her aunt!"

I don't know where people get that idea from. Maybe they have lower expectations than I do? Because, while I realize she's in no way a completely unruly and spoiled brat, I don't think she's a wonder kid either. I think she's a normal toddler, who when she is good is very very good, but otherwise... is two years old.

Edit: Actually, that Barbara thing was a complete non sequitur, since Barbara hadn't been not listening to her mom, and is also a generally well-behaved little kid.
