Why on earth would you think it's okay to post in a community saying "I know I'm breaking the rules, but..." for anything short of a national emergency?

I mean, hello? Are you *begging* to get banned? Because, aside from being against the rules, that's just rude.

Many people then jump on the OP, and it gets even more out of control.

It makes for interesting reading sometimes. People attack the poster, people attack the attacker, and so on. It would be better all around if people just stayed on topic. If they have something to say that isn't, start a community, join one that is on the topic they want to talk about, or post it in their personal LJ. So many options.

Well... it's like this... these people think that they are so cute/special/the centre of the freaking universe and thus rules don't really apply to them if they pout/bat their eyelashes/or introduce their posts with faux-polite intros like "I know I'm breaking the rules but..."

Yes.

That's how I interpret (the motivation behind) such things, anyway -- "Yes, I know, but I'm special so the rules don't apply to me / I'm cute so you'll do whatever I ask even if it's against the rules / similar".

I find it annoying, especially when they say, "I apologize for the off-topic post [meaning they know it's wrong]. Mod, feel free to delete." Why don't they just ask the mod if it's okay to post?

Again:

Truly sorry.

Clueless, not intentionally rude.

Saw other icons that seemed "off-topic" (now I know that phrase and have committed it to memory!) and thought it would be a safe place to ask for help getting W&G icons. My misguided stream-of-consciousness went like this, "Cool English stop-time animation ... hmm ... where to go ... hmm ... the Aardman community doesn't seem to post icons ... hmm ... maybe cool bookish people who make such pretty icons could help ... la la la ... let's post a request ..." *blissfully ignorantly goes back to work*

*all hell breaks loose*

I sincerely did not intend to wreak mayhem and discord in the community.

Maybe I really am too old to have a blog. So much to know!!
