Found that at the Brooklyn Children's Museum. If only Ana were a little older! Alas!

I'm five and up, right? Maybe I could sublet the kid to somebody else...? *sighs*

I'll spare you all my normal rant on how Shoes Are Evil (except in special cases) in order to squee that Ana is finally willing to go barefoot. Only problem? Now she wants to go barefoot in places even *I* consider inappropriate, like at the zoo where the peacocks wander about... And if the ground is too rough, she doesn't want her shoes on, she wants to be carried.

Interesting thing. I remember my sister telling me a long time ago that when a guy lifts up a ballerina* that's only really possible because she holds herself properly - if she didn't, he'd grunt and put her down fast.

Man, is that ever true. If Ana is awake, and holding herself up, she doesn't feel heavy. When she's asleep, I can't put her down fast enough!

*My sister called where that asterisk is. Why? Because my mom had called her telling her to call me to tell me to call my mom. I don't understand my family sometimes.

It's true. I used to swing dance sometimes with a guy who weighed maybe 130 pounds, and his regular partner weighed 165. It's very much in how the woman holds herself, not in the man's strength.

It's true about the ballerinas... It takes seemingly forever to learn how to hold yourself that specific way, too. (I don't think I ever managed it, given they gave up and cast me as a male in all of the shows when I was performing.)

Yeah my dad was always able to lift my cousin easier because she was a dancer from the time she was teeny and he'd like bench press her, no, thats not it, but all of us would lay down and he'd lift us like barbells over his head and she was the easiest because she could hold herself straighter or something.

And borrow one of my over five kids, problem solved. :P

How long is it going to be there? We could try to meet up, see how everyone gets along and then take it from there!

Shoes are evil. Wait till Ana is old enough to understand that :-). But at this age, shoes are good :)

I was just about to say that... I'm about 115 lbs, and my partners have ranged from 170 to 130 lbs, and even when I was taller than they were, as long as I held myself properly it was never an issue.
(Swing and salsa here)

And in response to the comment lower down about the dad benchpressing the cousin -- My dad used to do that, and something we called "tom thumb," where we would actually stand on his hand and balance.
Ah, I miss being teeny.

If conditions are right, shoes are necessary evils. Otherwise, shoes are flat-out evil.

Interesting. I'm strong-for-a-woman, or at least that's how they always put it, and I've picked people up by surprise before.

(One guy claimed to be 140, but I don't believe it because I picked him up off the floor with my arms extended. Sorry, dude, you must weigh less than that, because I'm not She-Hulk, for godsake.)

I think that it has to do with how they do it, and that the guy is supposed to be able to also perform graceful maneuvers in the process. I can carry 40lb bags of kitty litter, but I'm not about to attempt to do an aerobasc at the same time -- or I could, I suppose, but I wouldn't look in the least bit artful! *grin*
