See, this is what I keep telling certain people (none of whom are you, by the way)! It's not my prefered solution (which is to go back to a safe distance and start laughing at the afflicted), but it's the one that works. It also is far kinder than my prefered solution, which some might call cruel.

*LMAO* "See? It's just a fucking watermelon! Look, it's harmless, and it's also tasty!"

Sometimes I'm able to approach things that way with people, but I often don't have the patience and they're usually too stubborn to remotely let it sink in.

I think that this goes quite well with my "everyone who doesn't like our current government should go to church and make as many friends as possible" theory that I proposed after the last election.

The best bit is that the Left cannot hope to work with the victims of the Right-wingers' watermelon-creation campaign. Because Rove, and his ilk, has already created this idea of a divided America, and the impossibility of Left ever agreeing with Right or vice versa, the brainwashed masses are given the idea that they have to hate the Left and distrust anything they have to say.

Ergo, if the Left-wingers try to sit down with the brainwashed masses and say soothingly, "My oh my, that watermelon does look frightening at first sight, shall we approach it slowly and see what it does?", the masses are going to react with "You're a Liberal flip-flopper! You have no moral code! I can't trust anything you say! You're just OUT TO CHANGE MY MIND!!"

Because, of course, one should never try to use argument or express a conflicting point of view :-/

P.S. Oops, I used the term "brainwashed masses", didn't I? How very intolerant of me...
