That place is huge. And it's got a lot of hardly-decrepit old houses, and some small cottages. So I have a new plan. When the world ends, instead of grabbing a boat and somebody who can drive it, making my way to Governor's Island, I'll head to Snug Harbor instead. That seem like a good idea to you?

Except that somebody else has probably already thought of it. It's a rather nice place. So what about this: I head into Manhattan. No, no, it's a good idea. See, since everybody else will be fleeing the city, it'll all be rather empty. I just need some seeds, and a few saplings, and I can set up residence in Central Park, or maybe in that area that didn't exist until they built the WTC.... So long as I'm careful about zombies, it'll be good.

Of course, the land in Manhattan is largely unsuited to farming, but it's not like I'll be supporting eight million people, so I should get by.

Have you ever read "Emergence"?
I'm often making plans about where to run to when the world ends.

Yes! I love that book, very few people have even heard of it.
I was thinking how quickly the roads went bad. The ocean or sea might be a better escape route.

Actually, I suspect there would be a significant "I live here and I'M STAYING" demographic still in Manhattan.

...which would mean you'd have neighbors, I suppose. That'd probably be nice.

Yeah, hangin' with Robert DeNiro and Martin Scorsese in a post-apocalyptic Manhattan would be kinda cool....
