More book review fun...
Nov. 25th, 2003 03:22 pm*giggles* This is hysterical. How many people can we find who think Just Ella is somehow connected to Ella Enchanted?
This book was nothing like ella enchanted. Halfway through the book i started wondering even if it was a sequal at all...for example, in the first book she called the prince Char, in the second, it was Charm...i know its not much of a difference but im picky like that. Plus its by a different author AND she looks completly different on the first cover then she does from the second, she does not have blonde hair!. I was 10 when i read this and it seemed a tad bit adult for me. However if i hadn't read Ella enchanted i would say it was half way decent. But overall i hated it.
*dies laughing* Okay. What should have been her first clue that the two books aren't related? At all? In any way, shape or fashion? Prize goes to the most creative answer!
There's even a reply to that review:
I would like to explain that this is not a sequel to ella enchanted. It is totally a different story. In Ella Enchanted she is already married in the end, and in here she is engaged!!!
This book is very fun to read and it doesn't take too long to read either. And if it was a sequel, Gail Carson Levine would have written it. Just Ella is written by Margaret Haddix. I am very glad that i read this book. And i am very glad that we now understand that it is not a sequel.
*giggles some more* This is even funnier if you've read both books, of course.
Oh wait. There's MORE people who made that idiotic mistake...
PLEASE DON'T READ THIS EXPECTING IT TO BE A SEQUAL TO "ELLA ENCHANTED"!!! If you read and loved the book "Ella Enchanted" and expect this to be a continuation, please don't read it w/that expection. My friends and I were hoping that it was a continuation to "Ella Enchanted" and so excited, but we had too high expectations and this book ruined everything "Ella Enchanted" stood for. If you haven't read "Ella Enchanted" yet (shame on you!), then yeah, you probably will like and love "Just Ella" b/c you don't know any better. I DON'T want to discourage anyone from reading this book b/c its not that bad. If you try to forget "Ella Enchanted" while you read and succeed, you'll think its wonderful. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE just don't expect it to continue "Ella Enchanted" b/c it will just ruin everything. Pretend its a separate story w/no relationship and you'll be fine. :)
It IS a separate story with no relationship. *giggles herself to death* And you won't like it "because you don't know better", you'll like it (assuming you do) because you can read more than one book...
And then there's this person, I don't know what she's smoking...
First, you should know that this story is not original. It copies Ella Enchanted in many ways, And it is hard not to read this book without comparing it to Ella Enchanted. But once you get over that, you will find that this book is actually very good.
Aside from the fact that it is taken off of the same fairy tale, I never saw a connection between the too... maybe I'm mistaken?
Oh. ANOTHER sequel person.
I didn't think this book was as good as Ella Enchanted. I don't think you should write a sequal to someone else's book. In Ella Enchanted, Gail Carson Levine finished the book, so there was no need for a sequal. In Just Ella, Margaret Haddix changed the story totally. She changed too many things to make the book good. Margaret Haddix, first of all, read the book you're writing the sequal to and don't change things. Second of all, if you wanted to change the book so much, just write a whole new one. I would not recommend this book. However, I would recommend Ella Enchanted. I give Ella Enchanted 5 stars
*stares* How is she writing a sequel? She is writing her OWN, SEPARATE ADAPTION!
I was under the impression that Just Ella would be the sequal to Ella Enchanted. I found out I was wrong. I liked Ella Enchanted much better
And the different author, the fact that nowhere on the cover did it state "sequel", that didn't faze you at all?
Note, there are other people who made comparasions to Ella Enchanted, both good and bad. The reason they're not getting quoted is because THEY know the difference between two similar books and a sequel.
*goes to see the comments for E.E.*
I first read this book several years ago and fell in love with it. I heard the movie is coming out in August, so I figured I would read it again to refresh my memory. I really didn't expect to like it very much now because I'm older and thought it would be too young for me. Boy, was I WRONG! I think I liked it even better the second time! As soon as I started reading, I was drawn in again for a wonderful ride. Even though I knew how it would end, my memories had faded so that the twists and turns surprised me once more. In short, this one of the best books I've ever read. It's great for all ages. Read it to your children! Read it to your friends! Read it to your dog! And most of all, recommend it to others!
They're making a movie out of this? Ick... Movies from books SUCK. Generally.
This book was one of the greatest books I've ever read. It has magic, and suspense, and fantasy, and romance. I loved it- and I'm sure you will too! Read it! (If you've already read it, you should read Just Ella by Margaret Peterson Haddix. It's almost like a sequel to Ella Enchanted!)
Well. This is where all those people got their idiotic ideas. Let's see. In THIS book, there's magic, in THAT book there isn't. In THIS book her father's a living jerk, in THAT book her father's a dead nice guy. In THIS book, she's in love with the prince, in THAT book she isn't. Yup. They're sequels, all right!
Every time I read it, I'm crying at the end when Ella ****** the *****. (sorry, I can't tell the reader of this review what happens at the end!!!
We can guess. We've read the fairy tale. We know she kills the stepmother, brutally.... *end sarcasm*
Oh, and special note, next person to say "this reminds me of cinderella" is gonna regret it.
Okay. Less of the sillies there. Though that book is very much overrated, I mean, I loved it myself, but it is not OMG THE BEST BOOK EVER!!!!! 20 STARS!!! It's just not.
And, remember. We're not criticizing my taste in fantasy, we're making fun of the sillies. There's a difference.
