Few things all randomly thrown together.
Jun. 9th, 2005 08:55 am1. I'm seeing a lot of comments from people I don't know. Hi-hi! Who are you? Come introduce yourselves! Tell me how you found me!
1a. The rest of youse can do that too.
1b. You can lie about yourself if your real life isn't interesting enough. I won't mind.
2. I'm going to rewrite my userinfo soon. I think I'll model the form after
book_icons, and stick it all in an entry somewhere. Much cleaner. Anybody have any questions they'd like answered?
3. How can something be the "very first"? Isn't that like being "very unique"?
4. We've been having blackouts. I don't get it. It's not even that hot yet!
5. Believe it or not, I'm actually going offline today for a substantial period of time. Going to the bookstore. The air-conditioned bookstore. Should be fun!
6. Okay. Since response was generally positive, who's up for a game of Calvinball this weekend? A real game, in Central Park (or another park, whatever)?
7. I need to buy some shorts.

Date: 2005-06-09 08:20 am (UTC)3. I took "very first" to mean "first of the first group", and "first" to mean "in the first group" but that's just me. "Very unique" to me translates to a bigger deviation from the norm than "unique".
4. Did the local schools get out recently? I don't know if there are now a million kids at home playing video or PC games, but if there are that could have something to do with the blackouts.
5. Happy looting at the bookstore!
7. Happy hunting for shorts, too :)

Me- middle aged bundle of insecurities watching my life change daily as my kids grow old and I finish college, go to work, quietly implode, hopefully doing it all with a sense of humor.

I'm a primarily Green/Red Wizard, seeking to make the non-standard races COOL. and FUN. and not ELVES. dammit. *kick elves*

Date: 2005-06-09 07:42 pm (UTC)I am extermely ADHD & in the process of getting an AS diagnosis (finally!)
I'm a health administration major & soon hope to be a force of change in the "behavioral" world by stopping all this nosense about "curing" & poor treatments for those on the Autistic Spectrum (particularly (not exclusivly)
I don't think I "found" you but I came across your journal through the Aspie community. I browse the "friends" page when I'm bored & your entry on gym sorta struck a chord w/ me I guess. Just FYI, you're not on my friends page though (I don't add people w/o asking first).
3. I don't get the "very first" thing either....
5. bookstores are fun ;)...I'm going to Books-a-million tommorrow ^_^
that's all I have to offer

Date: 2005-06-10 10:00 pm (UTC)Politically I consider myself a moderate in that I find both democrats and republicans to be stupid most of the time. I typically lean democratic because I agree with their standpoints more. I've been told that if I'm neither democrat nor republican but primarily vote democrat, then I'm a "centrist" and not a Moderate (which is apparently someone who's neither democrat or republican but typically votes republican). I've told the people who told me this that that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard and I refuse to be categorized like that. Frankly, if they have that much of a need to categorize me, they can call me Green, as I've donated twenty more dollars to the green party than I have any other political party.
I don't like the thought of abortion and think that we should work to prevent as many of them as possible through making condoms and other contraceptives more widely available. Vasectomy's are wonderful - I've had one and the recovery required no pain medication what so ever.
Okay, that might be too much information.
I only know one person who has asperger's syndrome and his parents were complete idiots. For all i know, they might have gotten a book explaining all the best ways to raise their child so that he'd be better able to fit into society, and then gone down the list and done the exact opposite of all those suggestions.
I'd like to write fiction for a living one day. This will never happen.
I'm jealous of Connie because she's clearly smarter than I am and clearly either has a much higher reading speed than I do, or has the same reading speed and at least twenty six hours of spare time every day in which to read. Due to my low self esteem, my natural reaction to this is to do everything within my power to impress her, such as offering to buy her things that she wants...
...but only things that I can afford, unfortunately.

Date: 2005-06-11 05:43 am (UTC)Then again, you don't strike me as having a low self esteem, and I can't think of any other reason for you to underestimate your intelligence...
I've checked and my vocabulary has gone down over the past eight months. I've found things that I had casually written then and I now need to tote a dictionary with me when I read them. Do you have any idea how terrifying that is?

Date: 2005-06-11 05:45 am (UTC)Saying that I'm probably not smarter than you isn't the same as saying that you are probably smarter than I am. We could have approximately equal intelligence, which is what I believe to be the case, even if you aren't using your brain as you ought.

Date: 2005-06-12 04:40 am (UTC)And I'm still jealous of my dad. He read slowly, I always thought, but once he read something, he never had to read it again, because he remembered everything.

Date: 2005-06-12 07:09 am (UTC)You, in turn, can be jealous of me because I'm 6'5" and can reach things on high shelves, or you can be jealous of me because I have a job where I sit in a room for eight hours at $8.25 an hour and get to read and write most of the time. You can be jealous of me because I'm particularly good at finding four leaf clovers, if you want to. You can be jealous of me because by the time I was a sophomore in highschool I had written more non-school related fiction than most people ever do in their lives (at least 600 lined pages, most of them college ruled.)

Date: 2005-06-12 01:57 pm (UTC)19 year old (female) college student; piano performance major, and hoping to transfer next spring to school of music/conservatory.
I found you through readerravenclaw's friends page. You link to a lot of interesting articles, and I got tired of using about 4 clicks to find you every day.
I’ll generally have conservative or libertarian leaning on things. Chalk it up to my air force brat demi-fundamentalist blue-jean-skirt homeschool background if you’re feeling generous, though I can’t really shift blame there much longer. (We will bury you! And impose our evil regressive ways on all humanity!)
Pianos and music theory tend to be pretty innocuous, at least. Maybe.
