Really.

And it's ALL MY FAULT.

This one girl keeps telling me that Harry Potter "just isn't gay or bi". For some reason, this is really pissing me off. We know the character isn't gay, because we can read his mind - but that's not proof that he is, in fact, straight. He could easily be bi. I think we need to have more than one crush on a girl before we can accept that as proof that he'll never have a crush on a guy, is all.

That goes for *all* characters, everywhere, in everything. Heck, that even goes for me. As far as I know, I'm straight - but I could be very, very wrong. At 22 (am I that old already?), I'd be a bit surprised, but it's definitely possible.

Back on topic, this conversation would be a lot less stupid if I'd just leave well enough alone and go away from it.

Yes, it is... I didn't figure it out until I was about 26 years old, and that was despite having some pretty unmistakable signs of it. I can be rather slow that way, though. (I'd have to be, to have had repeated sexual dreams about females and *not* have questioned my heterosexuality! :o)

I thought I was bi until my early 20s...

Pretty much. You wake up some morning and realize that, while boobs are fun, you don't really fantasize about other women, or whatever.

I don't know-- I think maybe people don't suddenly realize they are or are not a sexual orientation, but rather that they change over time.

I've always wondered why people spend time speculating if Harry is gay/bi or not. It's all speculation and from his behaviour so far, all signs lead to straight. But then, what does it matter? He's a boy wizard with an arch-nemesis, a curse and a prophesy to deal with. Can't we save the sexual confusion for later?

I think such a thing is up for the author to decide, and for the fans to accept it.

I am not only completely uninterested in females physically, I have no desire for an emotional intimacy/romance (and I can get those flushed feelings with men still despite being married), and in fact the thought turns me off. I'm not DISGUSTED but the thought of kissing a woman again makes me go 'ew, no thanks' much like the thought of me voluntarily eating a raisin.

Okay, then Harry is really a big flaming queer. He'll actually be getting a sex-change in the 7th book and he'll be seducing Voldemort in order to vanquish him. J.K. told me this personally :P

It's just that I've see people get into some pretty nasty arguements over this topic and it's really such a moot point. I don't CARE what orientation he is.

I have a friend who did just that. He just married a very young (er, okay, so she's 22, but he's 28 and has been living far from his parents and making lots of money since she was still in high school), very sweet, very religious girl who went straight from her parents' house to his. (I kinda suspect he said to himself "Okay, I have a new house, what do I need to make it complete? A wife!" Anyways.) I rather doubt she knows how well-acquainted he is with the gay section of Philly ... But in any case, he'd been dating only women for about three or four years, after being extremely active in his university's LGBT scene. Basically, he woke up one day and said, "you know, the kind of life I want to have involves a woman."

I liked him better when he was bi. Only partly because we used to go check out guys together.

It certainly doesn't matter whether Potter is *really* gay or not.

After all, that's why God gave us slash.

I think that's what happens when you involve yourself in "slash" anyway...you get lots of "dreck". Honestly, the vast majority of "slash" and "fanfic" seems to revolve around the repressed sexual behaviours of the writer than anything ever intented by the original author or anything the character would do, unless someone is incapable of writing their OWN story with their OWN characters and their OWN plotline.

And no, I don't much like slash.
